Candlewood Suites of Kansas City, Kansas
Focus Hotels, Art Smith, approached us to “take over” and finish a failed construction project in Kansas City, Kansas. The 8 week time constraint for completing this hotel was next to impossible given the amount of work, repairs and corrections required. The upcoming NASCAR race in Kansas City booked the entire hotel with ESPN Sport Center Staff for a two week period and that date was not moving The ESPN reservations were confirmed with deposit in hand, Focus had one chance to get this hotel opened for the event. All bets were on DC Construction.
As it worked out DC turned the project around, and pushed hard to completion with only a few days to spare. Passing all inspections for occupancyat the local level, not to mention the “Candlewood Standards Inspection”.
The structure went from a poorly and partially framed building with many code issues through an extensive repair and corrective process with most local inspections classified as “Special Inspections” that came with a fee and called in rapid fire in order to complete the construction process. I remember calling one inspector on a Saturday and paying for an inspection interupting his lawn mowing. At the end of the day all required inspections were completed satisfactorily, all workmanship and code issues repaired work totally completed and the Certificate of Occupancy recieved days before the scheduled opening. The building went from a rough frame catastrophe to total completion in 8 weeks.
